Helping Refugees in the Ukraine

24 Feb , 2015

Many thousands of people have had to flee the conflict in east Ukraine – the great majority of them to west Ukraine. The Ukrainian Nehemiah Team were among the first organisations around Uzhgorod to accept refugees. In spring 2014 they opened the doors of the Nehemiah Centre for refugees from the Crimea, from Donetsk and Luhansk. More than 80 people have been accommodated there temporarily or otherwise, mostly mothers with children. In the meantime better accommodation has become available for many who are unable to return to their homes. Even now, the Centre is caring for a great many women and children who fled from the east. Besides providing initial material aid to the refugees, and organising counselling and therapy for them, the local Nehemiah Team co-ordinates the distribution of relief goods from foreign countries and helps find apartments and work.
